From contact to contract, they got the quote within the week and that price never changed over the time it took to build.

SHED ‘ICING ON THE CAKE’

One thing that is clear when talking to the Jensen’s about their shed build, is that Waikato Sheds had a real ‘can do’ attitude about the project – nothing was a problem.

The Jensens’ saw a shed up the road they liked and it had been built by Waikato Sheds. After a previous build of an implement bay shed (with another shed company), they wanted a straightforward, uncomplicated project and that is exactly what they got from Waikato Sheds. From having the idea in March, to starting in May and finishing in September, the project was plain sailing. They needed the shed for a post-wedding brunch to be held on the property in late October, and Jeanette wanted time to do the planting and landscaping before the wedding. As they were on a tight time frame, they were reassured to see that Waikato Sheds delivered their neighbors shed on time and with no fuss.

The Jensen’s had a fair idea of the shed building process, having previously had dealings with another company when they built the implement shed. Building the new shed was key to the tidy up of the property and getting rid of a hodge-podge of storage sheds including a container. They wanted a solid and secure structure to house farm vehicles and motorbikes. (The Jensen’s own a working farm, though they do lease it out currently.)

They looked at a few other companies, but they encountered mainly naysayers when they laid out the plan for the shed they wanted. Other companies were saying ‘Oh no you can’t do this, and you can’t do that’. While the Jensen’s did have a list of requirements, it was certainly nothing outrageous, but more to do with the size and shape of the shed and how it would be situated on the section. Also, they had to take into consideration the movements of the various farm vehicles around the shed, in relation to the other buildings.

Then Waikato Sheds said “Yes we can do that” and very much had a ‘can do’ attitude – they weren’t busy pointing out all the things they couldn’t do. Nothing seemed to be a problem. At times Waikato Sheds would suggest alternatives and challenge the Jensen’s in their thinking, working together to resolve any tricky design areas.

The main permits went through Council when the Jensen’s were away down South, and Waikato Sheds took care of any queries from Council, such as boundary information, and stormwater drainage, so the project just kept moving forward. If there were any negotiations the Jensen’s say it was good to not have to deal directly with Council as that can at times be…challenging to say the least!

Murray did the earthworks himself on the sloping site, and put rock underneath to build up the retaining wall. He did have to push a bit of dirt around to get the site just right for the retaining wall and also to line it up with the other shed. On a site visit Waikato Sheds talked with the Jensens to ensure they ‘were on the same page’ and then the agreed plans were sent to the architect. The shed wasn’t prefabricated or a standard design, but customised to suit the Jensens brief. The main decisions left to the client were the choice of colour/s, window sizes and placement, the profile of materials used etc. So aesthetics were important, especially given the close proximity of the shed to the house.

Waikato Sheds also took care of the sub-trades and the Jensens were pleased to only have a few contractors coming onto site as ‘the site” after all is the Jensen’s home. With their other shed build they seemed to have multiple contractors and never knew who was coming and going. There was a noticeable difference in the styles of two different companies, and the Waikato Sheds builders on the job were actually a family team which made it all very easy-going.
